Learning Something New

Each month I try to challenge myself to read something factual about something I know nothing about. Here are some of the monthly reads that I found interesting.

I teach English as a second language to students all over the world but I really had no idea about the people who live in North Korea. We see things on the news but this book opened my eyes about one girls journey to freedom.

We might hear the stories of women going into sex work due to having no choice but what about if someone really does choose to work in this industry? This book tells one woman's journey.

We all know the name but I didn't really learn much about World War II at school so I thought this was a good place to start. Such an insight into what this family went through during this time.

There aren't many of us that get to see the inside of a prison so this book was interesting due to the medical standpoint and it was interesting to see the relationships and interactions with the inmates.

The world has had many mass extinctions (think the dinosaurs) and we are now living in the next. This book goes through each (focusing on the latest) and discussing what we can do about it. I do have a science background but really enjoyed this.

I studied Animal Behaviour and once thought this is the would I would work in so I found this fascinating. But its also a good story of the bond between man and dog working the mean streets so is good for anyone who likes so law and order too.

The A-bomb happened many years before I was born but with the world the way it is at the moment I wanted to read more about how it effected the people. This is the story of how 25 young girls were effected by this day for the rest of their lives.

Just a Bit of Light Reading

Had me literally laughing out loud. A great romantic comedy to help pass the time while you are sitting in the airport or on the beach.
